4.1 Magnitude Earthquake on May 1, 2005
A light earthquake occurred May 1, 2005 at about 7:37 a.m. Central Time in the New Madrid Seismic Zone near Manila , Arkansas . Registering 4.1 on the Richter scale, the quake occurred at 9.7 kilometers (6.0 miles) underground. The earthquake was recorded on instruments in the Kentucky Seismic and Strong Motion Network, operated jointly by the Kentucky Geological Survey and the Geological Sciences Department at the University of Kentucky .
