Title: Groundwater Basin Maps GIS Coverage’s for the 100k Quadrangles

Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: Vector digital data (ArcView GIS)

Publication_Place: Lexington, KY

Publisher: Kentucky Geological Survey

Description:

Abstract:

These digital GIS coverages represent data published on the Karst Groundwater Basin Maps for the Bowling Green, Beaver Dam, Campbellsville, Tell City-Jasper, Somerset,  Lexington and Harrodsburg 1:100,000-scale quadrangle maps and published data in other areas. There are three files in the set. The KGWBM_Sites file contains the dye trace input and recovery points (sinks and springs) and related table information.  The KGWBM_Flow file contains the inferred or mapped groundwater flow routes and related table information.  The KGWBM_Basin polygon file contains the approximate outlines of the traced karst groundwater basins and subbasins and related table information.  Digitization was done onscreen using digital raster graphic files of the 7 ½ minute topographic maps, registered and projected to the Kentucky State Plane coordinate system.  The data are provided in decimal degree format.

Purpose: To spatially locate and delineate the sites, flow routes, and basin outlines for the Karst Groundwater Basin Mapping dye trace program.

Access Constraints: Only as provided by the Kentucky Geological Survey guidelines and policies on digital data publication.

Use Constraints:Not recommended for siting wells or any application requiring precise location of conduits. The groundwater routes are inferred and are also much narrower than can be depicted at either the working digitized scale of 1:24,000 or at the 1:100,000 scale intended for the finished hard copies.
