We are proud to announce that Sarah Arpin, geologist at the Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS), has been elected to the Board of Governors of the National Speleological Society (NSS). Founded in 1941, the NSS is the world's largest organization dedicated to the exploration, study, and conservation of caves and karst environments, with more than 10,000 members and over 250 local chapters, known as grottos, across the United States.

The NSS Board of Governors includes a 12-member Directorate and a 5-member Executive Committee, which together oversee all operations of the Society. Directors are elected by the NSS membership to staggered three-year terms, with four director positions filled each year. Sarah's term will begin on June 21, 2025.

In this leadership role, Sarah will help advance the NSS's mission: promoting responsible cave exploration, scientific research, conservation, and public education. Her appointment reflects a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and scientific inquiry—principles that align with KGS's core values of environmental sustainability, excellence in research and public service, and unselfish collaboration and cooperation.

Please join us in congratulating Sarah on this significant achievement and supporting her continued efforts to protect and better understand our planet’s underground landscapes.
