LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 1, 2005) -- Information sessions for University of Kentucky staff members considering seeking election to the UK Staff Senate will be held in the William T. Young Library Auditorium at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, and 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in the UK Hospital Auditorium.
Staff members will receive information in the sessions about the duties of the UK staff senators, the self-nomination process, and the election time line.
To be eligible to run for a UK Staff Senate position, an employee individual must have been employed at UK as a regular, full-time employee on or before March 1, 2004. The self-nomination process begins at 8 a.m. April 11 and concludes at 4 p.m. April 22.
Self-nomination forms are available in an insert to the March 28 UK News and on the Staff Senate Web site. The electronic voting will begin at noon Monday, May 2, and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, which is also Staff Appreciation Day. Sixty senators will be selected from the U university’s 10,000-plus staff members.
New senators will serve a three-year term beginning July 1.
“Being a staff senator gives you the chance to represent your department and make sure your voice is heard on many different issues facing staff members at the university,” said Staff Senate Chair David Ellis, an employee in the UK Athletics Department . “I urge everyone to serve. Without representation, our voice cannot be heard. Get involved and help improve the lives of staff at UK,” Ellis added.
