LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 28, 2005) -- The University of Kentucky recently established the Terry B. Mobley Development Awards to honor the career of UK’s current Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

The awards were created to recognize and reward staff members who have demonstrated outstanding performance and professional achievement. Two “Professional Achievement Awards,” one for a central development professional staff member and one for a college development professional staff member, and two “Front Line Awards,” one also for central development and one for college development, will be presented annually beginning in 2005.

A third award, the “Development Service Award,” may be presented to a UK development professional, administrator, faculty or staff member who has demonstrated extraordinary support for the development efforts at UK and who is a strong advocate for the university through service to local, state or national service organizations.

“These awards honor a man who has devoted his entire career to the advancement of the University of Kentucky - his alma mater,” said Paula Pope, UK’s director of campaign services and donor relations. “Terry Mobley’s exemplary leadership and success in the area of development is a model for all of us involved in university advancement.”

All full-time UK development professionals and full or part-time development support staff are eligible for these awards. Deans, associate deans, full-time faculty, development professionals, and support staff may make nominations. No self- nominations will be reviewed. Winners will be chosen based on creativity, stewardship, teamwork, service, and professionalism. Leadership or development related activities and events are appropriate criteria to consider in nominating someone for these awards.

The nominating period will run from June 1 through July 31 of each year. Promotional information will be provided via UK News as well as on the UK Development Web site. Awards will be presented annually in September at a special ceremony. In addition to a plaque, recipients will receive a $500 monetary stipend from the Terry B. Mobley Award endowment. Recipients’ names also will be added to a recognition wall in the Sturgill Building on campus.
