Grants and Scholarships
1 Slide. 5 Minutes. Outstanding research! Cheer on UK undergraduate research students as they share their trailblazing research and compete for cash prizes in the annual 5-Minute Fast Track Research Competition. The 5-Minute Fast Track is an academic competition that cultivates students' presentation and research communication skills, and challenges them to describe their research to a general audience within five minutes.
Any current UK undergraduate (full- or part-time, enrolled for either semester) who does not already have a four-year degree is eligible for this competition and is invited to submit papers and other projects in the following categories:
1. Biological Sciences
2. Design (architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, etc.)
3. Fine Arts (film, music, painting, sculpture, video, etc.)
4. Humanities: Creative
5. Humanities: Critical Research
6. Physical and Engineering Sciences
7. Social Sciences
Research Travel Grants (up to $600) are awarded to students to help subsidize travel costs incurred while presenting at local and national conferences.
Undergraduate Research Abroad Scholarships (up to $5,000 stipend) are a collaborative effort between the Office of Undergraduate Research (UGR) and Education Abroad (EA) to provide students with an international research opportunity.
Summer Research Grants (up to $2,500 stipend) are awarded to undergraduates in all areas of intellectual inquiry and many different levels of matriculation.
Sustainability Summer Research Fellowships ($2,500 stipend) are funded by the Environmental Stewardship Fee and seek to promote projects that will make a significant contribution to the student’s academic growth, while concomitantly contributing to sustainability focused research initiatives at the University of Kentucky and within the community at large. Where appropriate, we are also seeking projects that will make a scholarly contribution in their discipline. Sustainability here is defined as the intersection of social, economic and environmental justice. Sponsored by the Student Sustainability Council and UK Sustainability.
Intercollegiate Sustainability Research Experiences (ISRE) ($4,500 + $500 travel stipend) are competitive summer research fellowships specifically designed for undergraduate students. Participants will spend 8-10 weeks working under the mentorship of a scientist or team in a sustainability focused research environment. Sustainability here is defined as the intersection of social, economic and environmental justice. Sponsored by the Student Sustainability Council, UK Sustainability, and The Food Connection.
The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), established in 1987, is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students.
