The complexity of health care systems today demands an increased focus on improving outcomes with knowledge of evidence-based nursing interventions. A BSN-prepared nurse is innovative in health care delivery with knowledge in interprofessional practice, leadership and bedside expertise.
IMPORTANT: This rigorous program allows students to complete all didactic course work fully online, but requires weekly in-person clinicals and labs on the University of Kentucky campus.
Our ABSN program has three applicant types (i) Second-degree (ii) MedVet and (iii) LPN.
Admission requirements depends on applicants background.
(i) Second-degree Applicants
Completion of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree
Cumulative 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale for second-degree; Science GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
(ii) MedVet Applicants
Completion of Army Medical Specialist (68W), Navy Corpsman or Air Force Medical Specialist training
Review of JST and CLEP for academic transfer credit with UK's Veterans Resource Center and Transfer Equivalency Office*
Cumulative 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale ; Science GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale

(iii) LPN Applicants
All applicants must have minimum grade of "C" in each of the following natural science courses:
NOTE: Repeated grades are averaged together. We do not use the best grade for courses that have been repeated.

The full number of credit hours that are required to earn a bachelors degree is 120. Required credits will vary based on previous credits earned by a student.
