The graduate certificate in Biostatistics (gcb) is a 15-credit hour graduate certificate that allows students studying in programs outside the department of biostatistics to learn a basic background in the design and analysis of biomedical studies. The courses included in this certificate will provide students with an introduction to methodological applications in public health and medical research; skills that will be necessary for completing quantitative components of research projects and attractive to future employers

Application Process

Following Graduate School deadlines, all application materials must be received at least one month before the semester you plan to begin your coursework. 

Pre-approved Certificate courses that have already been completed may count towards the curriculum requirements. Requests to include these courses are made on the application. 

Students must apply to the UK Graduate School.  Graduate School application deadlines and forms may be obtained through their website at: http://www.research.uky.edu/gs/.

Admission to or award of a graduate Certificate does not guarantee admission to a degree program in the same or any other discipline.

Official transcripts

Official transcripts are required for undergraduate and graduate work from universities other than the University of Kentucky. A GPA of 3.0 is required for admission.

Curriculum

The Biostatistics Certificate curriculum involves a total of 15 graduate credit hours including 6 hours of required courses.

Required Courses:

CPH 580 – Biostatistics I (3 hrs)

CPH 630 – Biostatistics II (3 hrs)

Elective Courses:

BST 655 Introduction to Statistical Genetics (3 hrs)            

BST 761 Time to Event Analysis (3 hrs)

CPH 631 – Design and Analysis of Health Surveys (3 hrs)

CPH 636 - Data Mining in Public Health     (3 hrs)

CPH 664 - Design and Analysis of Clinical Trials (3 hrs)                             

CPH 713 Pharmaco-epidemiology (3 hrs)

Biostatistics Graduate Certificate students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better to progress in the curriculum

All course work for the Biostatistics Graduate Certificate must be completed within 5 years of admission.
