Accounting continues to be recognized as one of the world's leading professions. Numerous companies conduct on-campus interviews because our graduates are known for their excellent work ethic, knowledge base, and willingness to contribute. Von Allmen School of Accountancy students are a primary source of talent for all of the international, national, regional, and local CPA firms and corporations. Our placement rate by the semester of graduation for the Class of 2019 is 95% and our average pass rates for each section of the CPA exam over the past five years have been in the 90 percentile range. A PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting is also available form the University of Kentucky's Gatton college of Business and Economics.

Master of Science in Accounting

The Master of Science in Accounting (MSACC) degree at the University of Kentucky offers students a program of advanced study in accounting. The program provides preparation for professional positions in public accounting, industry, and other organizations. When coupled with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and satisfactory completion of prerequisites of undergraduate courses in accounting, the MSACC allows students to prepare for the CPA exam while they complete their graduate courses which are offered in lock step with the CPA exam. Specifically, the program’s objectives are to:

  • Help students develop communication and technology skills expected in the accounting profession;
  • Enhance the accounting knowledge of students entering the accounting profession;
  • Enable students to develop both leadership skills and teamwork in researching accounting issues;
  • Enhance students’ creative problem-solving skills and ability to think logically and analytically.

Admission Requirements - Master's Degree

  1. Undergraduate accounting GPA of 3.2 or greater
  2. GPA of 3.0 or greater (non-accounting majors / Bridge Program)

 

Application Requirements - Masters degree

  1. Official transcripts
  2. Three reference forms from former professors for non-UK students
  3. Personal Statement - In 800 to 900 words, discuss the reasons you wish to pursue a MSACC degree at the University of Kentucky’s Von Allmen School of Accountancy. Please address the following in your essay:
    • Academic preparation and accomplishments for graduate study
    • Leadership qualities and motivation
    • Previous accounting and/or relevant work experience
    • Expectations for the MSACC program
    • Your short-term and long-term goals and how a MSACC degree will help achieve these goals
    • Any additional information you feel is relevant
  4. For international applicants: Official TOEFL score with a minimum TOEFL IBT score of 90 or IELTS score of 7, or score at least 30 on the verbal section of the GMAT exam. Waived for students with U.S. degrees.

Applicants must meet the Graduate School admission requirements.

The GRE/GMAT is not required for UK students in this master's program.

 

Application Deadlines
  • Fall: July 22 (domestic applicants), February 1 (international applicants)
    • ​Domestic students who are applying for partial academic scholarship/stipends must have their applications submitted by Friday, April 1.
  • Spring: November 15 (domestic applicants), August 15 (international applicants)
