About Qualtrics

What is it?

Qualtrics software (provided by Qualtrics) is a generalized survey service permitting the creation of survey instruments, distribution of the surveys, data storage and analysis, accessible and performed online right in your browser.

How can I use it?

Qualtrics is user-friendly but can handle complex designs. Use this software for collecting feedback and evaluation data, creating surveys, conducting research, etc. Simple surveys can be produced in minutes.

Complex studies, involving randomization and embedded and longitudinal data, are also possible. Qualtrics offers features that similar survey engines do not: for example, a survey sharing mechanism enables collaboration, and “libraries” can store commonly used surveys, such as course evaluations.

Qualtrics' features include:

  • Audio and video presentation
  • Simple intuitive interface for creating and editing questions
  • Collaborate with anyone within and outside of the university
  • Easily integrates with panels, databases of respondents, and can build your own panels using the survey
  • Complex research designs using Survey Flow, Display Logic, Randomization tool
  • Flexible question types for collecting quantitative and qualitative data
  • Results downloaded in many file types (SPSS, Excel, XML); cool-looking graphs and tables available for direct export
  • Database of templates

Who can use it?

All current UK faculty, staff, and students can create Qualtrics accounts.

Where is it?

Qualtrics is a web-based application and is accessible from anywhere in the world at http://uky.qualtrics.com. This enables users to create surveys and review data regardless of their physical location.

Access to Qualtrics requires a Qualtrics user account. To obtain an account, sign into http://download.uky.edu with an active link blue account, search for Qualtrics, and click through to the user registration form. After submitting the form, you will receive an email with UK-specific instructions to create your account. This account creation process typically takes less than 10 minutes.


UK currently maintains a site license for this software, so usage is free for current faculty, staff, and students.

Technical Requirements

Basic technological requirements to use Qualtrics are minimal: Internet access, basic computer skills, and a modern web-browser with JavaScript enabled.

We recommend you use the latest version of your browser of choice. For best performance, select a browser officially supported by Qualtrics. Each is free to download, install, and use. Older versions of these browsers may still work, but are not recommended, as they are not as well suited for the latest web technologies.

To navigate through Qualtrics, we recommend using the blue tabs and other buttons within the tool, rather than the Back and Forward buttons in the browser.
