The Commonwealth has long provided energy to its residents and beyond. Our energy industries have built and shaped communities throughout Appalachia and will continue to do so. Due to the essential and formative nature of the state's energy industries, at UK we rigorously investigate technologies and policies related fossil fuel and renewable energies and the environment. This research is simultaneously connected with community partners and industry to sustainably enhance the state's energy outlook and economy. UK faculty, staff, and students provide public service through scientific education and its energy-related competencies. We also work directly with communities through the Energy Extension Program, where regional energy coordinators work with business, local governments and educational entities to provide energy-related technical assistance and outreach resources ranging from seminars to sample analysis to long-term research with small business.
