SBIRT

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based practice used to identify, reduce, and prevent problematic use, abuse, and dependence on alcohol and illicit drugs. This program offers creative ways to learn about and practice using the SBIRT Technique.

The clinical toolkit is comprised of substance use related screening resources and charts such as the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) and the CRAFFT substance use screening tool for adolescents.

SAMHSA has created a locator tool for treatment facilities in the United States or U.S. Territories for substance abuse/addiction and/or mental health challenges. Find a resource center near you!

Learn more about the literature surrounding SBIRT in various contexts and populations.

Here you'll find our interactive training modules. Each video features a scenario with a different patient living with alcohol-use concerns. These videos contain interactive quizzes that deepen understanding of the SBIRT process.
