Secondary Traumatic Stress

Secondary traumatic stress is the emotional duress that results when an individual hears about the firsthand trauma experiences of another.

Secondary Traumatic Stress can take numerous forms. Here, we focus on research about compassion fatigue among psychiatric nurses. This phenomenon has emerged as a detrimental consequence of work-related stress among nurses. Compassion fatigue affects the job performance, and emotional and physical health of nurses.

RAPID

RAPID is an inaugural Research and Practice Initiatives Day (RAPID). As part of an academic-clinical partnership, the intent of RAPID was to advance education, enhance staff development, support research, and improve patient outcomes.

Evidence Based Practice

An evidence-based practice is any practice that relies on scientific and mathematical evidence to form strong inductive or deductive arguments for guidance and decision-making.

Academic-Practice Partnership

The purpose of the Academic-Practice Partnership is to provide collaboration between the UK College of Nursing, UK HealthCare and Eastern State Hospital in terms of practice, research, and scholarship. This partnership began in October 2015.

There are currently two main levels of engagement:

  1. Delivery of nicotine withdrawal management and tobacco treatment services for inpatients and outpatients.
  2. Promote and facilitate evidence-based practice, research, and scholarship.

Community Engagement is the process of working collaboratively with and through groups.

The Work Learning Program was designed as a way for nurses to further their education and advance their careers, and to prepare these nurses for practice and leadership.
