Marianne R. L. Young

University Director for Academic and Career Advising

Marianne R. L. Young serves as the University Director for Academic and Career Advising. She has worked at the University of Kentucky since 2009 and joined the Stuckert team after serving as the Assistant Dean for Student Services and Success for the Gatton College of Business & Economics. Before her time at UK, Marianne worked as a Behavior Specialist and mental health therapist for adults with cognitive and/or developmental disabilities. She obtained her B.A. in Psychology and Spanish from Transylvania University and her M.S. and Ed.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky. She is currently working on her dissertation for a Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy and Evaluation. Marianne is originally from Millville, KY and now lives in Lexington with her husband, Jay, their son, Thomas, and their daughter, Thea. 

Prior job that shaped her:

Marianne served as a Resident Advisor and Hall Director while completing her education. These positions in student affairs really helped her recognize her passion for serving students.

What she enjoys doing outside of work:

Marianne enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and traveling. 

A goal in life: 

One of Marianne’s goals in life is to travel to all 50 states. She has currently traveled to 49 of the 50 and just needs to visit Hawaii to reach this goal.

Fun Fact:

Marianne’s favorite animal is a groundhog.
