Melanie is a born & raised Lexington native. She is also an alumna of the University of Kentucky with a degree in Psychology/Family Studies. Following college, Melanie worked at UK’s Center for Drug and Alcohol Research. In this role, she utilized her “gift of gab” when she contacted clients for a follow-up research study who had completed alcohol and substance abuse programs in jail or prison. She completed an internship at the Stuckert Career Center for her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2011 and was hired on as a career counselor where she worked with Education and Social Work majors. After leaving for a position working with students in Engineering, Melanie was thrilled when her dream position in Employer Relations became available.
Prior job that shaped her:
Melanie worked as a leasing consultant during her time in graduate school where she realized that she needed to work in a position where her knack for making connections with others could play a large roll in her daily work.
How she would describe herself:
Big hearted, outgoing, and family oriented with a tight knit group of friends, many of whom she has known for 20 years or more.
What she enjoys doing outside of work:
Spending time with her husband, Kent and son, Blaine; attending concerts; spinning at Cycle You, Junior League of Lexington
A goal in life:
To travel to Italy, Spain, Greece, and The Netherlands.
Melanie holds dual citizenship with the U.S. and Ireland. She’s visited Ireland at least 10 times over the course of her life since her father is originally from Co. Tipperary, Ireland.
