Global Connections

The Global Connections project began in 2012 to encourage UK faculty to link their courses with other classes taught around the world. As a Global Connections course, History 405 supported international cultural exchange through frequent video conferences with a comparable class at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3 campus. Drs. Kathi Kern and Hélène Quanquin developed the course with a commitment to innovative teaching that broadened the learning experience of students across continents.

A&S Course Redesign Institute: Spring 2012

In the Spring 2012 semester, the Center for the enhancement of Teaching and Learning partnered with the College of Arts & Sciences to design and deliver a Course Redesign Institute to assist a select number of Arts & Sciences faculty with incorporating more active learning techniques and educational technologies into new or existing courses. We're really thrilled to see the creative ideas that our faculty Institute participants have come up with to implement in their courses this Fall (some even started implementing their new ideas this Spring!). We look forward to working with other Course Redesign cohorts in Arts & Sciences and other Colleges at the University of Kentucky in 2012-13!

Mining an Educational Partnership

Abdul Khalil, Professor of Mining Engineering at Balkh University in Afghanistan, recently participated in an international collaboration with the University of Kentucky's College of Engineering and Department of Mining Engineering. As part of the program, Professor Khalil attended a series of curriculum and instructional workshops led by CELT. He hopes that incorporating new teaching and learning strategies will yield better opportunities for his students, who will be able to complete their degrees and find locally-based jobs exploring the region’s terrain.

Innovation + Design Lab 2016

Last spring, instructors from across campus met with the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) to begin course prep work at the third annual Innovation + Design Lab (I+D Lab). As part of the eLearning Innovation Initiative (eLII), the I+D Lab is a three-day intensive instructional design workshop for UK faculty members to develop tech-enhanced face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.

Coming Together for Innovative Learning - The CELT Innovation+Design Lab

At the 2015 Innovation + Design Lab, 28 faculty learned about innovative, technology-enhanced teaching and learning techniques. The pedagogy workshops looked at such issues as digital pedagogy, multimedia learning, formative assessments, hybrid and online course design, and Universal Design. The I+D Lab is just the start for these faculty. When the Fall Semester starts, they will be grouped into Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) to further learn and discuss, as well as sharing how the implementation process is progressing throughout the academic year.
