This award is given to two alumni who have graduated from CHS in the past 10 years and who have been successful in their field, and have qualities in leadership, mentorship, and recognition.

Dr. Fisher graduated from the Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program in 2013 and is a board-certified orthopedic physical therapist and a certified lymphedema therapist. In addition to her educational endeavors, Dr. Fisher has excelled in the area of leadership. She currently serves as the Chair and Program Director of the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Fisher is also the Editor-in-Chief for the Rehabilitation Oncology journal, and was past secretary of APTA Oncology, an Academy of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Dr. Fisher has devoted her career to researching breast cancer and helping women overcome this disease. During her doctoral work, Dr. Fisher examined upper extremity function in individuals who had undergone breast cancer treatment. She is currently chair of the Cancer-related Fatigue Clinical Practice Guideline Development Group, and has led several taskforces for the Evaluation Database to Guide Effectiveness examining best practice for evaluation of impairments for those with cancer. Dr. Fisher has numerous peer-reviewed publications in the physical therapy oncology field and also serves as a mentor for students who are interested in her area of research.

Dr. Fisher’s passion for research, her patients, and students have all contributed to her receiving this award. When asked about receiving this award, Dr. Fisher said this, “I am humbled to have been nominated by my advisor, Dr. Timothy Uhl, and Dr. Esther Dupont Versteegdan. It is an honor to be recognized by this award for my work advancing oncology rehabilitation and teaching future physical therapists since graduating from UK College of Health Sciences in 2013. My success is in part credited to the mentorship I received from Dr. Uhl, Dr. Gilson Capilouto, Dr. Terry Malone, and Dr. Heather Bush.”
