Admissions

The CSD undergraduate program at the University of Kentucky admits students to the pre-professional program on a selective and competitive basis. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 42 credit hours at the time of application. Students also need a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 21 on the ACT (SAT score of 1500 on new scale) to be considered for admission. Students not meeting these minimum program standards will not be evaluatedThe only specific course requirement needed before applying to the program is having completed an Introduction to Psychology or General Psychology course by the conclusion of the Fall semester of the sophomore year. Admissions are conducted using a holistic evaluation approach using the applicant's cumulative grade-point average (GPA), ACT or SAT scores, three letters of recommendation, relevant personal experiences (including service, leadership and professional interest activities), and a personal letter of application. All applications will be evaluated by a faculty committee during the Spring semester, with admission decisions typically mailed out or e-mailed to the student during the later half of March.  Newly accepted students will begin the CSD program in the following Fall semester. Please note that successful admission to the UK undergraduate program in CSD does not indicate or imply future admission into the CSD graduate program.  The undergraduate and graduate program application processes are independent of each other.

Please make sure to read the CSD Admissions FAQ for critical information with regard to application materials, do's and don'ts, selection procedures used by the faculty for admission, and answers to a whole range of common questions posed by students. To be considered for admission to the CSD undergraduate program, the student must carefully follow the CSD application instructions (available under the Apply heading on the left hand menu), and follow the general admissions procedure to the University of Kentucky according to established time lines. If the student is already enrolled on the UK Lexington campus, he or she does not have to re-apply for admission to UK, but must still complete all the CSD Program application materials.  As described in the CSD application instructions, a completed application to our program consists of both an online component and several parts that must be mailed directly to the College of Health Sciences' Office of Student Affairs. The online portion of the application must be submitted between January 1 and February 1 during the Spring semester of the applicant’s sophomore year. Hardcopy components of the application must be mailed to the address listed in the instructions before February 1st.  The deadline for submitting ALL elements of the CSD program application (both electronic and mailed components) is February 1.  It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that ALL parts of the application (electronic and paper), including letters of recommendation, arrive in our offices or are postmarked before or by the due date of February 1st.  Any application that remains incomplete or with received items postmarked after the Feb 1st deadline will not be considered.
