Purpose of the Committee:

The purpose of the Diversity and Inclusivity Committee, is to bring together members of the College of Health Sciences who are committed to promotion and engagement in diversity and inclusivity initiatives. The committee meets monthly to discuss ongoing and upcoming initiatives and events, and members of the committee continue to focus on enhancing the environment for diversity and inclusion across the University.

University Objective:

Objective: Enhance the diversity and inclusivity of our University community through recruitment and retention of an increasingly diverse population of faculty, administrators, staff, and students, and by implementing initiatives that provide rich diversity-related experiences for all to help ensure their success in an interconnected world.

We will achieve this objective by working collaboratively to create an environment where all of our students, faculty, and staff live or work in an environment of openness and acceptance, and in which people of all backgrounds, identities, and perspectives can feel secure and welcome.

We are committed to providing an enriching UK experience for all students, faculty, and staff by actively exploring and adopting new initiatives that will expand both the diversity and inclusivity of our campus community.

College Diversity and Inclusion Officers: Carl Mattacola, Rachel Hogg

College Diversity and Inclusion Officers will work collaboratively with the Provost, Vice President for Institutional Diversity and the leadership of their college to achieve the vision and strategic objectives of Diversity and Inclusivity within their respective college and the greater University community.  Officers are charged with:

•   leading in the development of initiatives and programs that support equitable opportunities for achievement and professional development of students, faculty, staff, and administrators from underrepresented/underserved populations

•   enhancing diversity and inclusivity as it relates to recruitment, promotion, and retention of historically underrepresented students, faculty, administrators, and staff

•   the implementation of initiatives that ensure rich experiences and opportunities for all students, faculty, and administrators, and staff to engage in meaningful interactions, dialogue, and reflection around diversity, equity, and inclusion

•   assessment of college-wide diversity efforts by tracking data and generating reports

•   responding to inquiries for college diversity and inclusion narratives and on-going data collection

Bias Incident Support Services

For any student, staff, or faculty, Bias Incident Support Services is available to anyone impacted by bias, hatred, and/or an act of identity-based violence..  We recognize the pain and trauma that accompanies these acts of terror and hatred and we want you to know you are not alone.  There is a place for you to come that is brave, safe, and supportive.  If your friends, roommates or colleagues are struggling and you aren't sure what to say or what to do, refer them to BISS. And you are welcome to come with them.  You can also go to the Bias Incident Support Services website http://www.uky.edu/biss/ for additional information and resources.  We are located in Frazee Hall, Lower Level, Suite 4. Our hours are 8:30am-5:00pm and we welcome walk-ins. We can be reached at 257-3189.

Other campus resources for dealing with racial and identity-based trauma include the Counseling Center and the Office of Work-Life.
