Peer Mentors

Help Fellow CHS Students Succeed & Earn Class Credit

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) is seeking Peer Mentors for incoming first year undergraduate students. The position will come with course credit and mentoring and leadership experience. The position will last for the 2019-2020 academic year with opportunities to be re-selected in future years.

We are looking for peer mentors who:

Are already established (accepted) into a CHS academic program
Can commit to at least one academic year with their mentees
Are reliable, conscientious, able to maintain confidentiality, and regularly check their email
Are knowledgeable about CHS academic programs and career options in healthcare
Are approachable, good listeners, and can provide guidance and support to new CHS students
Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness for helping other and adding to a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging
Are willing to participate in occasional evening and weekend activities

Duties include:

Enrollment in HHS 480 in Fall and Spring Semesters
Serve as a peer mentor for approximately 20 first-year students during the 2018-2019 academic year with a group of fellow mentors
Planning and executing events throughout the year for mentees
Attending and assisting at CHS events such as Welcome Day, beginning of year events, and Student Success Series
Attend peer mentor orientation and training in April & August 2019
Read and familiarize yourself with peer mentor manual
Maintain communication with peer mentor coordinator, including providing a monthly summary of activities with mentees
Complete pre-tests and program evaluations as needed
