In regard to wearing masks …

June 14, 2021

Faculty, Staff and Students,

I hope all of you are well. I wanted to take a moment to re-emphasize some of the plans we have made as we gradually work our way back to a sense of normalcy, specifically when it comes to wearing masks.

While we should have a real sense of optimism about where we are headed, I also want to reiterate that we still have mask mandates in place:

  • People who are vaccinated are not required to wear masks or face coverings in campus outdoor spaces or inside non-UK HealthCare campus buildings.
  • Mask requirements for individuals who are not vaccinated will remain in place. In other words, individuals who are not vaccinated will be required to wear a mask or face covering when inside any campus facility, including recreation facilities. Individuals who are not vaccinated also should wear a mask outside if they are near other people.
  • The best path forward, especially to maximize the safety of you and others, and to be able to take full advantage of all campus resources and privileges is to GET VACCINATED.

Just to make clear: Anytime ANY students, staff or faculty enter a health care facility, including the CSD clinic, UHS, KY Clinic, Chandler Hospital, etc., they should wear a mask unless directed otherwise. As it relates to CHS, the Charles T. Wethington Jr. Building is an academic building, not a UKHC building.

While we are enthusiastic about the great progress we have made, we still realize the importance of adhering to these rules. We do this for our own safety, and for the safety of others.

If anyone has questions or concerns, please refer to the UK COVID webpage at https://www.uky.edu/coronavirus/fall-2021-playbook.

Best,

Scott
