A Time to Celebrate Arrivals and Departures

August 26, 2022

Faculty, Staff and Students,

Congratulations are once again in order — for a number of reasons.

First, I want to again highlight the students, faculty and staff who returned this week for the fall semester of classes. The first week is almost over, and you made it. By now you should be easing into a routine, and I’m thrilled that you have chosen us for your education, or — for our faculty and staff — to help educate and support these amazing students.

It is an incredible time for growth here in our College. This week, we welcomed the largest-ever class to CHS, with 346 first-time freshmen, 1,036 total undergraduate students and more than 1,500 students overall. It is a testament to all we have accomplished that so many qualified students want to join this family.

And now, as can be the case when we have the opportunity to celebrate wonderful arrivals, we also get to recognize those who are leaving us. I want to remind you all of the College of Health Sciences’ Retirement Celebration, which begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, in the Harris Ballroom of the Gatton Student Center.

There, we will be honoring four of our outgoing faculty: Drs. Lynn English, Tony English, Bob Marshall and Art Nitz.

Each of these educators made a difference to countless students in their time here, and we are thrilled to be able to revisit some of those memories as we commemorate their careers.

As you can see, it is another exciting time to be in the College of Health Sciences. Again, I want to welcome you all back to campus, and congratulate you on your first week.

May you all stay safe and well — and prepare yourselves for an outstanding semester.

Best,

Scott
