Clinical Education

The University of Kentucky clinical education program is an essential partnership between the university and facilities throughout Kentucky, across the U.S, and internationally. We have affiliations with sites in 29 states, Washington, D.C., Italy, Hong Kong and Australia. In 36 weeks, integrated throughout the three years of the program, the student gradually builds skill necessary to become an independent and versatile physical therapist. There are also elective opportunities including a medical service effort in Ecuador, offering students chances to serve while learning during the second and third years of the program.

Facility types include hospitals, rehabilitation centers, sports medicine centers, geriatric and pediatric centers, home health agencies, and other more specialized types. During a clinical experience, a student will be assigned to a facility and work with one or more clinical instructors to apply concepts and skills from classroom and laboratory to patient/client situations.

Students must be prepared to experience one clinical course outside the state of Kentucky, except when special circumstances prevent it. Students are responsible for all costs related to clinical experiences including, but not limited to, transportation, lodging, meals, clothing, physical examinations, health requirements and insurance.
