Lexington Campus Class of 2016

Dear Prospective Physical Therapy Student,

As members of the 2016 Doctor of Physical Therapy class at the University of Kentucky we would like to express our gratitude and excitement for your interest in our program.  While we are a bit biased, none of us will hesitate to say that we are students of the best physical therapy program in the nation.  This program is a great balance between academics, professional opportunities, philanthropy and extracurricular activities.

Besides being on the list of top PT programs in the country, UK boasts a very diverse and supportive faculty.  The wide spectrum of their collective expertise and personal experiences ensures that there will be a faculty member that you will bond with during your time here.  They personify excellence and are very devoted to both their profession and their students.

In addition to our esteemed faculty, the clinical experiences available at UK are second to none.  The experiences are scheduled intermittently throughout the curriculum and constructively build on each other to maximize learning.  Clinical sites available to students span across the entire country, and even overseas.  Italy, India and Ecuador are available to students as either clinical opportunity or service learning trips.  Our reach is global.

Here at home in Kentucky, our class is also very involved in the community.  Samaritan’s Touch is a student run clinic which provides PT services to underserved or uninsured populations.  Each class transitions to take over the clinic in the fall of second year and thereby enrich the lives of citizens in Lexington who may not otherwise be able to receive important care.  In addition to Samaritan’s Touch, our class is very involved philanthropically in the community and volunteer every chance we get.  Recent experiences include packing meals for Hope for Haiti, revitalizing a local cemetery, constructing a Habitat for Humanity house and painting a domestic violence shelter.  As a class we also stay very active in intramurals, tailgating and other activities outside of class.  We share a strong bond that is reinforced by much more than our shared schedule and academic concerns.

When the time comes to transition to professional life, the faculty at UK ensure that you are prepared.  Our program boasts a 100% pass rate on the National Physical Therapy Examination.  There is also a vast alumni network who are willing to offer support to help with your shift to the professional world.  In so many facets, UK is committed to setting you up for success.

Everyone is our class has found a home at UK and wouldn’t change a thing on our journey.  We wish you luck in your application process and hope that you continue to consider making our program a part of your journey.  If there is anything we can answer or help you with, feel free to reach out.
