Terry Allen, Associate Vice President for Institutional Equity

Terry D. Allen has led the UK Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity since 2003. As Associate Vice President for Institutional Equity, he is responsible for upholding the institution's commitment to equal opportunity in academic programs, employment, services and activities. From July 2015 through March 2017, Mr. Allen assumed the position of Interim Vice President for Institutional Diversity reporting to President Capilouto and advising the President and Provost on all academic, fiscal, programmatic and administrative policy decisions regarding the University's diversity and inclusivity goals.  He has worked extensively with academic colleges, UK HealthCare, and administrative units throughout campus. In addition to managing numerous UK Strategic Plan and regulatory policy assignments, Mr. Allen serves as Chair of the UK Equal Opportunity Committee, UK Institutional representative for equal opportunity to federal and state agencies and co-chaired the Women's Leadership and Career Development Task Force. As a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Planning committee, Mr. Allen coordinates the annual MLK Freedom March in downtown Lexington, in addition to working with other state and local organizations.

Mr. Allen has served in a variety of leadership roles since leaving the corporate world. His initial nine years of work in Student Affairs provided an experience that focused on the critical work of a postsecondary education official – student success.  Originally from the state of Kentucky and a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Business and Economics, he developed a passion for learning and a demonstrated commitment to the values of equal opportunity, access and inclusion throughout his life and professional career.

 

Martha Alexander, Executive Director & Title IX Coordinator

Martha Alexander has served as Executive Director in the Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator for the University of Kentucky since February 2018.  Martha joined the University as Deputy Title IX Compliance Officer in July 2015 and has, since that time, also served as Interim Title IX Coordinator.During her time with the University, Martha has been a member of a variety of committees and work groups. Most recently, Martha served as Co-Chair of the Joint Working Group on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Policies, which worked to provide recommendations to the President’s office and University Senate related to implementation of the Department of Education’s Title IX Regulations.

Martha holds a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law, a B.A. in French from Eastern Kentucky University, and a B.A. in English from Eastern Kentucky University.

Martha’s position with the University requires her to ensure compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 and investigate alleged violations of University policies relating to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. To make a complaint of discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct, please make a report or request an appointment.

 

Heather Roop,  ADA Coordinator & Technical Compliance Officer

Since 2006 Heather has served as the Technical Compliance Officer for the University of Kentucky.Heather’s duties include collecting and formatting employment data to write the University’s Affirmative Action Plan and provides that information to University administrative units and officials. Heather determines compliance with all Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity commitments, develops and presents training programs on Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity issues to institutional units and groups, and oversees the office’s records management system. 

In February 2018, Heather’s role expanded to include service as the American’s with Disabilities Act Coordinator. In that role, Heather ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and handles accommodation requests pursuant to the ADA. Heather holds a B.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of Kentucky College of Education.

 

Laura Brasie, Equal Opportunity Investigator

In February 2019, Laura Brasie joined the University of Kentucky as an Equal Opportunity Investigator. Prior to joining the office, Laura worked in the Office of Student Conduct and Violence Intervention and Prevention Center within Student and Academic Life at the University of Kentucky. Prior to joining UK, Laura worked in University Housing at Eastern Kentucky University.  Laura received her B.A. in Communications Studies and M.A. in Human Services from Eastern Kentucky University.  Laura's responsibilities include investigating complaints of discrimination and harassment and conducting trainings. Julia Phillips, Equal Opportunity Investigator

In November 2016, Julia Phillips joined the University of Kentucky as an Equal Opportunity Investigator. Prior to joining the Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity, Julia worked in the Community of Concern Office within Student and Academic Life at the University of Kentucky as a case manager from 2013-2014 and as the Assistant Director from 2014-2016. Julia has a B.A. in Anthropology and a M.S. in Student Affairs. Julia’s responsibilities include investigating complaints of discrimination and harassment and conducting trainings. Meredith Reeves, Equal Opportunity Investigator

In April 2018, Meredith Reeves joined the University of Kentucky as an Equal Opportunity Investigator.  Meredith has served as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator since Janaury 2019.  Prior to joining UK, Meredith worked in private practice where she litigated civil rights discrimination cases and advised clients on a variety of issues relating to employment, higher education, and K-12 education.  Meredith holds a B.A. in Art History from Elon University and a J.D. from University of Kentucky College of Law.  Meredith's responsibilities include investigating complaints of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct; ensuring University compliance with Title IX regulations and other federal and state guidance; and conducting trainings on University policies and procedures relating to discrimination and harassment. Brandon Williams, Equal Opportunity Investigator

In March 2019, Brandon Williams joined the University of Kentucky as an Equal Opportunity Investigator.  Prior to this position he served as the Title IX Coordinator at Kentucky State University and as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Eastern Kentucky University.  Brandon earned his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and his Master of Public Administration from Eastern Kentucky University.  Brandon's responsibilities include investigating complaints of discrimination and harassment, assisting with ADA accommodations, and conducting trainings for the University community. Andrew Beppler, Administrative Support Associate

Andrew Beppler joined the Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity in October 2017 as the Administrative Support Associate.  Prior to joining the Office, Andrew worked as a Researcher with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and as a Quality Improvement Coordinator with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.  Andrew holds a B.A. from Ohio State University and received his Master of Public Administration from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs.
