The University of Kentucky is dedicated to its commitment to improve the quality of life of Kentuckians through engagement, outreach and service. The Office of Community Engagement was established to support this effort of intentionally building partnerships that are collaborative, sustainable and mutually beneficial. The OCE connects organizations, community groups, schools and agencies to the University’s students, faculty and staff in an effort to promote this true sense of engagement.

Who We Are

Our MISSION is to support and create community engagement opportunities that meet the economic, health, and educational needs of our community.

What We Do

Create

Create an open and inclusive atmosphere that gives voice to engagement efforts in the community through one-on-one consultations, trainings and community Engagement programing. 

Promote

Promote civic membership to enrich and advance student learning.

Improve

Improve local community relations through a set of advanced practices to improve the quality of life of our citizens. Serve as an information hub to keep the community informed and connected.

Facilitate

Facilitate collaborative and multidisciplinary opportunities for faculty and staff to develop relationships and sustainable community partnerships.

Service-Learning and Civic Engagement

In 2010, a campus collaborative was formed in an effort to best support students, faculty, staff and the community with regards to service-learning; a form of teaching that deliberately engages the campus with the community to meet a specific need for the community and supports continued learning for the students. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UK offers educational and enrichment courses, forums, shared interest groups, trips, events and more for adults 50 years and older. More than 1,500 adult learners participate annually. The University of Kentucky has been at the forefront nationally in lifelong learning since 1964. The OLLI at UK has sites in Lexington and Morehead.
