New Recyclable Items

University of Kentucky is expanding their mixed recycling stream to include many new items!

In the beginning of 2020, the university began sending their mixed recyclables stream to WestRock in Louisville, Kentucky. This exciting partnership has allowed the university to expand the materials they are able to be accept. Some of the newly accepted items include plastic cups, plastic to-go containers, plastic jars, plastic containers, paper cups, brown and white paper bags, frozen and refrigerated cardboard, aluminum foil, and aluminum pans.

WestRock’s facility in Louisville, Kentucky is a materials recovery facility (MRF) that separates and prepares our single-stream (i.e. mixed) recycling materials. Once sorted, WestRock transports the materials to facilities within the region to be used for manufacturing new products.
