For current students

Being the first in your family can be overwhelming, but UK provides resources to support you through this process. At UK, nearly 1 in 4 incoming freshmen and 1 in 3 transfer students are first-generation college students. So, you are not alone in your journey.

Successful students at UK take advantage of campus resources. Tutoring, peer mentoring, student organizations, your faculty and academic advisors are your best resources to ensure you become a college graduate. To ensure your success, take advantage of the following:

  • Visit the Student Success site for tips and resources

  • Get Involved by joining a student organization like the First Generation Student Organization

  • Visit Student Support Services to learn about tutoring and workshops

  • Consider participating in Undergraduate Research

  • Meet with your professors during faculty office hours

  • Get to know your academic advisor and utilize APEX/MyGPS to monitor your progress towards graduation
