Power of One First-Generation Student Week: A Convention Experience

 

 Monday, November 7

  • First-Gen Celebration Tabling/Postcard Station: Thanks for Putting Me First, 11am-1:00pm, Gatton Student Center Atrium, First-gen students are encouraged to stop by to draft a thank you note to those that has been vital in providing support and encouragement during their college journey. Postcards will be mailed by First-Generation Student Services.
  • Jump In With First-Gen Ball Pit, GSC 201, 2-5pm- First-Generation students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to “Jump In” the First-Generation Ball Pit to tell their story, meet new people, and grab an excellent photo.
  • Relax and Release with Koru Mindfulness, sponsored by Student Support Services, 4:00pm, GSC Rm 233

Tuesday, November 8 (Shirt Day)

  • 1G Social Media Take Over, featuring the day in the life of a UK first-gen student
  • First-Gen Celebration BINGO with FGSO, GSC Ballroom A, 12-2pm, Swing by for a midday game of BINGO featuring great prizes, photo opps and special guest callers throughout the afternoon. 
  • CELT Lunch and Learn: First-Generation Student Panel. 12:30-1:15pm, M.I. King Library
  • Jump In With First-Gen Ball Pit, GSC 201, 2-5pm- First-Generation students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to “Jump In” the First-Generation Ball Pit to tell their story, meet new people, and grab an excellent photo.
  • Alpha Alpha Alpha Honor Society Induction Ceremony, Worsham Theater, 6pm

Wednesday, November 9

  • First-Gen Conversations with UK Counseling Center: How to Process Feelings of Being First-Gen, noon, GSC 201
  • Jump In With First-Gen Ball Pit, GSC 201, 1-3pm- First-Generation students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to “Jump In” the First-Generation Ball Pit to tell their story, meet new people, and grab an excellent photo.
  • Who Are You? Design Your Book Cover for the 1G Café, GSC 201, 4-5:30pm, Have a story to tell? Not sure where to start? Join us as we get creative and provide a space for you to create your story starting with creating your book cover over snacks and conversation.

Thursday, November 10

Friday, November 11

  • First-Gen Grad and Professional Student Coffee Chat, in partnership with CGPDI, GSC C201, 9-11am, All first-generation graduate and professional students, along with faculty and staff are invited to enjoy coffee and conversation.
  • Relax and Release with Koru Mindfulness, sponsored by Student Support Services, Noon, GSC Rm 355
  • Jump In With First-Gen Ball Pit, GSC 201, 2-5pm- First-Generation students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to “Jump In” the First-Generation Ball Pit to tell their story, meet new people, and grab an excellent photo
  • Throwback Movie Night with SAB, “Tommy Boy”, Worsham Theater, 7pm
