Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week (GPSAW)

Monday, April 26, 2021 – Friday, April 30, 2021

Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week (GPSAW) was started in 1993 by three student activists in the National Association of Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS): Tony Rosati (Georgetown University), Gina Pearson (American University) and Anne Holt (Florida State University). The purpose of GPSAW to raise awareness of the contributions, impact, and value that graduate and professional students make to colleges, universities, and communities across the country. Indeed, graduate and professional students in the state of Kentucky, through their notable accomplishments and outstanding achievements, have contributed tremendously to our academic and local communities. In fact, there are over 13,000 graduate and professional students enrolled in institutions of higher education across Kentucky, and these individuals will become the future teaching professionals, researchers, and leaders of our state, this nation, and the world. During the week of April 26, 2021, the Graduate Student Congress (GSC) at the University of Kentucky (UK) will be celebrating all that graduate and professional students do for the UK and the Lexington communities by hosting a couple events and activities. See the schedule below for more information.

Toward the end of each Spring semester, the Graduate Student Congress (GSC) hosts an End-of-the-Year Gala/Dinner with the President to celebrate the GSC’s accomplishments over the past year and to honor those individuals who went above-and-beyond in helping the GSC pursue its mission and achieve its goals. The President of UK, the incoming and outgoing GSC Presidents, and an Advisor of the GSC, are also invited to speak at the Gala/Dinner, and the GSC bestows a few named awards and several pillar awards upon its members for their contributions.

This year, the GSC plans to follow all Center for Disease Control (CDC) and UK COVID-19 guidelines, such as social distancing, contract tracing, etc. A mask will be required for entry into the event and testing or vaccination before the event is highly encouraged. Due to these restrictions, this year’s invited guest list will be limited to 40 people. However, even if you are not invited to attend in-person, the GSC will be recording and live-streaming this event on its Facebook page, and everyone is invited to tune in!
