Giving to the GSC
Thank you all for a great 2018-2019 campaign, we raised over $10,000!
2018-2019 Campaign Information
The Graduate Student Congress is the only democratic organization solely devoted to the interpersonal and professional development needs of graduate students at the University of Kentucky. As such, we have established the Graduate Student Success Fund to allow individuals to directly contribute to the betterment of the graduate student experience. The Graduate Student Success Fund is the only philanthropy initiative at UK that is coordinated by Graduate Students for Graduate Students. All gifts to the fund are used to support graduate student research, professional enhancement, and well-being.
The Graduate Student Awards Project represents our 2018-2019 efforts to support graduate student research through mini-grants which help graduate students to present at conferences and fund their research projects. All funds collected during the 2018-2019 Graduate Student Awards Project will be used to fund graduate student research and conference travel mini-grants which are competitive, monetary awards for conference travel and research needs. These awards are granted based upon merit and need. Participation in our awards program quadrupled over the course of the 2017-2018 academic year, and we expect this to continue.
A Letter From Our President
Greetings,
The Graduate Student Congress (GSC) is an organization committed to serving and supporting graduate students at the University of Kentucky. We advocate for graduate student needs on the university, state, and national level. We facilitate numerous programs designed to enhance graduate student life and development. Lastly, we build community by creating occasions for each of us to build relationships with our fellow graduate students.
Graduate school is designed to transform us into experts regarding our chosen fields of passion and, while a noble pursuit, such efforts can cause us to feel unworthy. The GSC is, at its core, an invitation to show each other that we are worthy and welcome. It is also an invitation to show each other that we can make others feel worthy and welcome whenever we allow people to express their needs without shame and on their own terms.
The GSC is unique not only because of our work, but because we are the only organization atUK that is organized by graduate students for graduate students. We believe that supporting graduate students impacts our whole community because of the role graduate students play as vanguards of undergraduate success, as partners in the University’s research program, and as citizens of the UK community. We are here to serve and will continue to build a strong and supportive neighborhood of graduate student scholars at the University of Kentucky.
Thank you for your support,
James William Lincoln
