About Kayla

Educational & Professional Background: Prior to joining the Honors College, Kayla worked in UK’s Office of Undergraduate Admission where she processed first-year admission applications and worked with incoming students at seeblue.U orientations. Kayla is a UK Honors alumna and received a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Strategic Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations, along with a minor in English. She holds a Master of Science from Western Kentucky University in Recreation and Sports Administration with a focus in Event Management. Kayla is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation at UK. Her topics of study include educational access, diversity and equity, land-grant institutions and Title IX. As part of her advising responsibilities, she is the director of the Upper Level Admission program. Kayla is the Alternate Diversity Officer for the Lewis Honors College.

Advising Philosophy: When working with students, Kayla focuses on relationship building and staying as knowledgeable as possible. She sees herself her students’ partner – there to challenge, support and provide guidance, in order to empower her advisees to make their own decisions.

Come Talk to Me About…: Kayla always has at least a couple books in her office that she is reading related to education, social justice or gender. She loves old sitcoms – her favorites include Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, Golden Girls and Frasier. She also likes to chat about NPR, podcasts, Garth Brooks and UK athletics.

Lexington Favorites: Outside of the office, Kayla enjoys traveling, reading, swimming laps, watching football and eating at local restaurants. A Lexington native, she enjoys many aspects of this college town – especially watching it turn blue on game day. You are likely to see her watching old films during the summer classics series at the Kentucky Theatre, exploring local art through Gallery Hop events or participating in community yoga classes.
