Lewis Honors College Colloquium: Dr. Patrick Curry
Topic: The Lord of the Rings and the “Re-enchantment of the World.”
Dr. Curry’s eclectic scholarship ranges from divination and astrology to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, ecocentrism, and the study of wonder. His most well-known and widely respected work on J.R.R. Tolkien, Defending Middle-earth: Tolkien: Myth and modernity, challenges readers to consider the role of the imagination (and imaginative literature, particularly) in “re-enchanting” a culture that has been “disenchanted” by modernity. Dr. Curry will pick up this theme in his lecture to the Lewis Honors College, titled: “The Lord of the Rings and the 'Re-enchantment of the World.” This talk will enrich the learning and experience of our students and broader community by inviting students to consider how they might “re-enchant” their own lived experiences, in college and beyond.
