Little wood satyr

Wing span: 
1 1/2 to 1 7/8 inches 

Caterpillar hosts plants: 
various grasses including orchardgrass, Dactylis

Adult food:  
tree sap, aphid honeydew, rarely feed on nectar

Habitat: 
grassy woods and opening, old fields, especially areas with limey or basic soils 

Notes:  
males patrol in shade for females, females lay eggs singly on grass blades, hibernates as forth-stage caterpillar.
