fruit, nectar of:  azaleas, Rhododendron; bergamot, Monarda; dame's rocket, Hesperis; lilac, Syringa; lupines, Lupinus; petunias, Petunia; phlox, Phlox;  teasel, Dipsacus; thistles, Cirsium; verbenas, Verbena; viper's bugloss, Echium

Habitat: 
wide variety of open habitats, including: open woodlands, woodland edges 

Notes:  
adults patrol for females, females lay eggs in batches on underside of leaves, hibernate as chrysalis, puddles.
