Robert L. Houtz

Professor
Associate Dean for Research & Director, Ky Agricultural Experiment Station
I am a Horticulturist who studies post-translational processing of the large and small subunits of Rubisco. My laboratory has cloned and patented several of the methyltransferase genes responsible for methylation of the large and small subunits. We are trying to manipulate these gene sequences to, ultimately, increase Rubisco activity and/or stability, thus leading to increases in plant productivity and yield.

Bob Houtz was appointed the Director of the Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station (KAES) and Associate Dean for Research in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment at the University of Kentucky in July 2018. He previously served as the Chair for the Department of Horticulture, 2009-2018.
