The UK-PPO plan is available at the same monthly cost as the UK-HMO and offers greater flexibility to choose a doctor or health care facility. While the monthly premiums are the same as the UK-HMO, members of the UK-PPO plan pay for this extra flexibility through deductibles and higher co-pays for certain services. UK HealthCare facilities and physicians are in the UK-PPO network and are available at lower co-pays and co-insurance than services outside of UK HealthCare.

High-deductible health plan with a health savings account.

  • You must meet your deductible before insurance begins to pay for health care costs, except for preventative care visits. This includes paying the cost of prescriptions.
  • Deductibles are lower if you choose UK HealthCare for services, meaning you’ll have to pay less yourself if you see UK HealthCare providers.
  • To help cover your costs before you meet your deductible, UK will deposit money into a health savings account - $1,000 for employee-only coverage and $2,000 for coverage that includes family members.
  • Once you meet your deductible, you’ll still have to pay a percentage of the cost for health care services.
  • Once you meet an out-of-pocket maximum for the year, your insurance will cover 100 percent of your health care costs.
  • If you expect to have more health care costs than you can afford to pay from your health savings account or your personal funds, you should consider one of our other health insurance plans.
  • If you do not expect to have many health care cost, the funds in your health savings account never expire. So, you can use them to cover health costs in future years, or even save them to use for health insurance or Medicare supplement insurance in retirement.

In addition to UK’s contributions to the health savings account, you can also contribute up to an additional $2,500 per year on the employee-only plan and $5,000 per year on plans that include family members. You can designate an amount to be deposited per each paycheck.
