Consider if: You’re financially secure to pay your health care expenses – including prescriptions – out of pocket before you meet your deductible. Or, consider if you are looking for a way to save for medical expenses later in life, such as retirement, using tax-free money.

This plan offers a health savings account (HSA), and the funds that accumulate never expire. Members of this plan pay for all costs out of pocket, except for preventive care, until a high deductible is met.

To help cover your costs before you meet your deductible, UK will deposit money into your HSA two times per year. You can also contribute additional funds to your HSA.

Your deductible is lower if you see UK HealthCare providers. And you can keep your out-of-pocket prescription costs lower by using UK HealthCare Retail Pharmacies

Once you meet your deductible, you’ll pay a percentage of the cost. And if you meet your out-of-pocket maximum for the year, then 100% of services are covered.

Coverage highlights

All employee health insurance plans provide one annual preventive care visit with your primary care provider at $0 co-pay within specified networks.

Deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums vary based on who you see for care.

You can meet your deductible or an out-of-pocket maximum on your own or in combination with any covered spouse, child or family member.

Just like our other plans, you save more with UK HealthCare. Deductibles are lower if you choose UK HealthCare for services.

UK contributes to your health savings account twice a year

To help cover your costs before you meet your deductible, UK will deposit money into a health savings account.

Amount deposited in July and again in January Total amount for the year
Employee-only coverage $500 $1,000
Coverage that includes family members $1,000 $2,000

You can also deposit money into your HSA

In addition to UK’s contributions to the health savings account, you can also contribute. You can designate an amount to be deposited per each paycheck. You can change your contribution amount at any time, as long as you don't exceed the annual limit.

For 2023-2024, you can contribute up to an additional $2,850 per year on the employee only plan and $5,750 per year on plans that include family members.

Your health savings account can be used toward these expenses and more

The full list of eligible expenses is available from Anthem, but these are examples of common eligible purchases.

  • Acupuncture
  • Birth control pills
  • Chiropractic care
  • Contact lenses and related materials
  • Crutches
  • Fertility treatment
  • Laser eye surgery
  • Over-the-counter (OTC) health items
  • Dental care including cleanings, fillings and crowns
  • Eyeglasses
  • Prescription sunglasses
  • Hearing aids

Funds in your health savings account never expire. So, you can use them to cover health costs in future years with another plan, or even save them to use in retirement.

If you expect to have more health care costs than you can afford to pay from your health savings account or your personal funds, you should consider one of our other health insurance plans.

You cannot enroll in both the Saver plan and a health FSA. However, you can enroll in a dependent care FSA and a limited FSA for only dental and vision expenses.
