As a dietitian, I value food that is both nutrient-dense and delicious. But like many of you, I usually want to get in and out of the kitchen as quickly as possible. To that end, I am always on the lookout for what I call “healthy-ish convenience foods.” These are foods that won’t make big sacrifices on nutrition or flavor, but they will save time and effort in the kitchen.  And while I have dubbed myself the “Lazy Dietitian,” I like to think of it as efficiency, not laziness!

People often state the lack of time and energy as major barriers to eating well. So, over the years, I developed a mental list of healthy-ish convenience foods that I frequently recommend to clients. As the list of foods grew longer and longer, it made sense to think about how this list could be shared with a wider audience. I am so thrilled to share it with you here on this blog!

The Lazy Dietitian foods feature a variety of categories, including snacks, beverages, entrees, and meal components. For the most part, these foods can be found at any major grocer for a reasonable price point. A few items may be harder to locate but can usually be purchased online if not available at a store near you.

As part of the Lazy Dietitian feature, I will periodically share a brief animated video that shows you how to use foods from the list to prepare a quick and healthful meal. The recipe will be posted on this blog, and rest assured that only basic cooking skills are required.  The Lazy Dietitian is on a mission to prove that eating well can be simple and tasty! Will you join me?

Yours Truly,
The Lazy Dietitian
