Things are getting somewhat back to normal. It’s time to get back to a regular schedule. Making your workouts a family affair is a great why to stay involved, build fitness for the whole family and foster a since of importance of physical activity among children. There are many ways to get your family involved in exercise.

For children, most exercise comes in the form of play. Chances are if you have a child and you pick them up from school, there is a playground available, and if not, you probably drive by a park on the way home (Lexington has more than 100 city parks). Something as simple as planning to visit a playground or park three days per week after school can be very beneficial for your overall health.

When you are there, don’t just sit and watch. Go up and down the stairs on the equipment, play tag with your kids, create and enact a strategy to seize the castle (one of my daughter's favorite park activities). This will not only assist in your fitness journey, but also strengthen the bond with your children, and get some afternoon energy out of them, which can help for a pleasant evening at home. If this is not feasible, do something else. Go for a 15-20 minute walk after dinner, play a yoga video on YouTube, try one of our MoveWell workouts from the Virtual Library. PSA: You don’t have to have kids to go to the park and exercise or play. Just go move and try to have some fun at the same time!
