HPC Getting Started: Getting Help

Getting Help

We encourage you to ask questions when you are in doubt! This will help you avoid wasting your time and using resources ineffectively.

  • All HPC users should read the README FIRST page.
  • Please see the HPC News blog for information on outages and current problems.
  • If you need in depth help or consultation, then contact the Center for Computational Sciences at 859-257-8737 or sysadmin@ccs.uky.edu. Ask to speak to an HPC consultant.
  • For help with your link blue userid or password, or for any other general IT question, contact the IT Service Desk at 859-218-HELP (859-218-4357) or helpdesk@uky.edu.
  • If your account is inaccessible, then contact the Service Desk (see above) and ask specifically if your account has been suspended or disabled. If it has, email the HPC support team at help-hpc@uky.edu for further information.
  • When you have a question, you can often save yourself a lot of time by looking at the HPC Frequently Asked Questions list.
  • The HPC Documentation page, while still in progress, has helpful information on commonly used software.
  • Get detailed help on most commands, packages, and libraries with the command.
  • Before reporting a DLX problem, please check the DLX message of the day (motd) and make sure it is not an already known problem. Show the motd with the sysstatus command.
  • Report HPC problems and get help with technical issues by emailing the HPC support team at help-hpc@uky.edu (please include your userid).

Also, there is a tremendous amount of HPC information on the web, especially at other supercomputing sites. Often you will be able to find what you need with a few simple searches.
