First APAT Internal Grant Recipient Announced

Sujin Kim, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in the Division of Biomedical Informatics, Department of Biostatistics, within the College of Public Health, jointly appointed with the School of Library and Information Science, College of Communication and Information has been awarded the first Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) Internal Grant Award in the amount of $13,000, to pursue her study, “An Effectiveness Study of a Personalized Learning Platform for Health Informatics Instruction.”

Call for Proposals: Active Learning LectureTools Development Grants

UK full-time and part-time faculty/instructors are encouraged to apply for a new grant opportunity, “Active Learning LectureTools Development Grants,” which are funded by the Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) Internal Grant Award Fund. These one year awards were developed to explore the use of an active learning platform and to develop a course integrating LectureTools. Ten awards will be given in the amount of $1,500 each. Application deadlines are July 1, 2013 and October 2, 2013.

Kirwan and Blanding Complex Wireless Upgrade

The Kirwan and Blanding Complex, built in 1967, is home to over 2500 undergraduate students each semester.  Residents spend a significant amount of time using wireless services on smartphones, computers and tablet devices. Wireless access is slow and unavailable in resident rooms and common areas. The complex is not conducive to modern wireless technology which hinders student living and learning experiences.

Microsoft Live@edu is now Microsoft Office 365

University of Kentucky Information Technology (UKIT) upgraded the Microsoft's Live@edu cloud email service to Microsoft Office 365 on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. UK students who had a Live@edu account now have two separate accounts: a UK-branded Microsoft Office 365 account and a personal Microsoft Account. All existing email, contacts, files, and other personal information migrated in the transition.

Decommission of UK Paging Server & Support

POSTED: MARCH 18, 2013

The UK Paging Server ( license has expired and the software provider is no longer providing a license or support for the product. Therefore, the paging server and support will be decommissioned on April 30, 2013. Campus paging server users can have emails sent to their pager via the pager providers internal systems by sending an email to their 10-digit phone number ( after April 30. UKHealthCare will communicate a new paging process to UKHealthCare pager users soon.

Known Issues with Apple iOS 6.1 and Outlook Calenders


Apple customers that have upgraded their device to iOS 6.1 will experience syncing issues with their Outlook Calendar. Users who have upgraded to iOS 6.1 will have “read-only” access to their calendars on their mobile device. Which means users will not be able to update or add new meetings from their iPhone or iPad during this time. Email will continue to flow as normal. At this time, UK STRONGLY advises users against upgrading to iOS 6.1, or any newer iOS (6.1.1).

Planned Maintenance January 5, 2013


UKIT is completing required maintenance on a storage system on January 5, 2013, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. 
During that time, the storage system vendor will work with UKIT Engineers to restart the system, which will require SQL databases to be removed from service. 
In addition, several systems and part of the VMFarm will be out of service.
