Decommissioning of Student Locker and Mac File Storage


Beginning in fall 2013, students using university computers and other technology services will save files onto personally owned USB devices and free cloud-based storage systems such as DropBox, GoogleDrive and SkyDrive.  In the past, student data storage known as Locker and Mac File Storage was used, but these systems have become unreliable and expensive compared to other options.  Therefore, students will need to remember to save to their own device or a cloud-based storage options when using campus computer labs, computer classrooms or the Virtual Desktop and Apps.

A website has been created to access current files on Student Locker and Mac File Storage.  Users need to log in and move current files from Student Locker and Mac File Storage to a personal device or cloud based storage system by December 20, 2013.  Instructions and links to Locker and Mac File Storage are available at After December 20, 2013 files will be removed.  To retrieve data and files, users will have to contact the APAT Service Desk at 859-218-HELP (4357). 

Please note: Cloud Storage Providers are not compliant with HIPPA or FERPA.  Therefore educational records and protected health information are NOT permitted to be stored “in the cloud” without approval from UK Legal.
