Kirwan and Blanding Complex Wireless Upgrade

POSTED: MAY 9, 2013

The Kirwan and Blanding Complex, built in 1967, is home to over 2500 undergraduate students each semester.  Residents spend a significant amount of time using wireless services on smartphones, computers and tablet devices. Wireless access is slow and unavailable in resident rooms and common areas. The complex is not conducive to modern wireless technology which hinders student living and learning experiences.

Therefore 355 new wireless access points will be installed which will increase wireless speed from 2Mb to 10 Mb by Fall 2013.  The wireless upgrade will provide 100% wireless coverage in all 1,275 rooms and common areas in the Kirwan and Blanding complex buildings.  This will improve the wireless experience for 2,551 of 5,248 student residents.  This summer’s wireless upgrade project excludes campus resident buildings scheduled for reconstruction in the next 24 months.
