Information Technology Services (ITS) would like to inform students, faculty, and staff that beginning November 1, Zoom is requiring that all clients be updated to version 5.5+ in order to join any meeting. See below for questions you may have regarding this new policy.
How Do I Know What Version of Zoom I Have?
If you would like to check your version of Zoom, follow the steps at Viewing the Zoom version number. Please note that if you use Zoom on multiple devices (e.g., mobile, tablet), you will need to check all of them.
Why Do I Need to Update?
Beginning November 1, Zoom is requiring that all clients be updated to version 5.5+ in order to join any meeting. This required update follows Zoom's new 9-month release window, requiring all clients be no more than nine months behind the current version at any given time. This policy ensures clients have the latest Zoom features, as well as any privacy and cybersecurity enhancements.
How do I Update Zoom?
If you are an administrator of your machine, please follow the steps at How To Update Your Zoom Client to install the latest version. If you are not an administrator of your machine, please contact your IT representative. Please note that if you use Zoom on multiple devices (e.g., mobile, tablet), you will need to update on all of them.
What Happens if I Don't Update by November 1?
Any clients that are version 5.5 or older will be forced to update when trying to join meetings after November 1.
ITS asks that all students, faculty, and staff ensure they are using Zoom version 5.5 or newer before November 1 to prevent any possible service disruptions.
