Clifton M. Iler is an Associate General Counsel in the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Kentucky. He has more than twenty years of legal experience in private practice and the university environment.

At UK, Mr. Iler advises the University in the areas of healthcare law, regulatory issues, educational law, behavioral health matters, employment and labor law, policies, contracts, faculty rules and regulations, medical staff issues, and student codes of conduct and honor codes.  Mr. Iler oversees claims made against the university in the Kentucky Board of Claims.

Immediately prior to joining UK, Mr. Iler was an Associate General Counsel of MCG Health, Inc., the hospital associated with the Medical College of Georgia. Before that, he spent sixteen years with the law firm of Alston & Bird LLP, an AmLaw 50 firm in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a member of the firm’s Products Liability Group and Litigation and Trial Practice Group. Based upon his experience at Alston & Bird, he has expertise in medical malpractice and healthcare litigation and investigations, including investigations involving the anti-kickback and Stark regulations. He also has appellate experience arguing before the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court.

Mr. Iler was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his undergraduate degree from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. He graduated with distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Law where he was an Associate Editor of the Kentucky Law Review.
