Clifton M. Iler is the Deputy General Counsel for the Faculty, Students, and Research Group in the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Kentucky. He has more that twenty-five years of legal experience in private practice and the university environment.
With the assistance of Senior Associate General Counsel, Marcy Deaton and David Kinsella, and Senior Paralegal, Terri Blom Crocker, Mr. Iler oversees the following areas for the Office of Legal Counsel at UK:
- Faculty Affairs (including Clinical Faculty) except Employee Benefits
- Student Affairs
- Enrollment Management
- Research (IRB, IACUC, OSPA)
- Intellectual Property
- Extension Service
- Internal Regulations
- All Board of Claims Matters
- Educational Agreements Involving Students
- Low Profile Litigation Involving Faculty and Students
Immediately prior to joining UK, Mr. Iler was an Associate General Counsel of MCG Health, Inc., the hospital associated with the Medical College of Georgia. Before that, he spent sixteen years with the law firm of Alston & Bird LLP, an AmLaw 50 firm in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a member of the firm’s Products Liability Group and Litigation and Trial Practice Group.
Mr. Iler was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his undergraduate degree from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. He graduated with distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Law where he was an Associate Editor of the Kentucky Law Review.
