Cultural Heritage Celebrations

The essence of the Martin Luther King Center is its annual calendar of high quality cultural/educational programs consisting of lectures, concerts, theatrical and dance performances, film and video screenings as well as exhibits and workshops. Its program history has included campus visits and presentations by scores of artists, speakers, activists and intellectuals like Muhammad Ali, Maya Angelou, Spike Lee, Edward James Olmos, Alex Haley, Ruby Dee, Ron Dellums, the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Randall Robinson, Nikki Giovanni and many more. These programs have enriched the university experience for thousands of students, faculty, staff and members of our regional community. 

In line with Dr. King's guiding Philosophy and our dedication to celebrating cultures and promoting cultural competency and awareness, the Martin Luther King Center hosts several events to celebrate various cultural heritages, histories, and observations. Events include, but are not limited to Black History Month, Women's HERstory Month, Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, Native American & Alaskan Native Heritage Month and so much more!
