DEEP of UK: Diversity Leadership Retreat
What is DEEP of UK?
D.E.E.P of UK is an overnight diversity leadership retreat giving UK students the opportunity to gain knowledge and training on issues of multicultural education, power & gender dynamics, oppression theory and the cycle of socialization. The goal of D.E.E.P is for students to leave the retreat with a personal impact statement that will allow them to make an impact on their community as well as promote and foster a stronger sense of belonging!
What does D.E.E.P stand for?
DEEP derives from the Martin Luther King Centers Cultural Competencies. It's our effort to achieve inclusive excellence within our programming, the Martin Luther King Center professional staff developed four competencies we expect students who interact with our office:
1. Develop an appreciation for inclusion through self-awareness and a consciousness of social and global issues (Awareness)
2. Encourage the cultivation of civic responsibility and well-being through interpersonal interaction & communication (Attitude)
3. Extend knowledge that challenges perspectives, promotes reflection, and stimulates application of pluralistic behavior (Knowledge)
4. Prepare students to lead in a global society and inspire social change (Skill/Action)
When is the actual overnight retreat?
September 20th – September 21st. We will leave UK at 12pm on Friday the 20th and return to UK on the 21st by 3:30pm
Where is this retreat?
Nancy, KY – Lake Cumberland 4H Educational Center
Do we have to drive?
Transportation will be provided.
