Hartley Feld PhD, PHCNS-BC, RN
Assistant Professor, Director of Global Health and Community Engagement

Dr. Hartley Feld received her PhD from the University of Kentucky in 2018 as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar. Her dissertation research was related to social determinants of Maternal/Child Health, specifically how the empowerment of women impacts pregnancy intention, with a global to local approach. She has experience leading international qualitative research, working with Perinatal and Sexual health research teams, performing secondary analysis with large data sets, and evaluating psychometric properties of measurement tools.  Additionally, Dr. Feld received her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Kentucky in 2006 in Community and Public Health Nursing. She is ANCC board certified as a public health clinical nurse specialist and an Associate in the Center for Inter-professional Education. Dr. Feld is currently an Assistant Professor and teaches Community and Public Health Nursing in the Undergraduate program and leads clinical experiences to improve the health of vulnerable populations in Kentucky.  Dr. Feld's other specialty area includes Global Health. She co-teaches the Inter-professional Global Health Course every spring, with students across the health colleges and remotely from Quito, Ecuador. Dr. Feld has been leading service-learning experiences to Santo Domingo, Ecuador as part of Shoulder to Shoulder Global since 2009. She also serves on the Shoulder to Shoulder Global Executive Council and promotes numerous global opportunities for nursing students through Education Abroad.  Her research and clinical interests include; maternal/child health, global health, social and structural determinants of health, gender-based violence, life-course theory, GIS, and health equity.
