Our faculty members provide an exceptional learning experience at a major university and clinical practice in a comprehensive medical center. All nursing classes and clinical activities are taught by faculty, not by teaching assistants.
UK is a research intensive academic health center that offers students unique opportunities to engage in research and evidence-based practice. One of these opportunities is the Undergraduate Nursing Research Intern Option in which students work alongside nursing faculty who are researchers as well as educators. Interns say that hands-on participation in a study makes research “come alive” for them and enables them to see how research drives practice.
Another student enrichment opportunity is the Nursing Practice Intern Option that enables intested nursing students to explore the profession in greater depth with practice mentors. Nursing Practice Interns attend seminars and design a clinical project, guided by a faculty mentor.
You’ll find that faculty, staff and administrators are committed to students’ success. Each week students can work on clinical skills or work with a peer tutor in the Clinical Simulation Laboratory during First Aid Fridays, a guided study hall for nursing students.
An impressive average of 97 percent of our graduates have passed the NCLEX (board exams) on the first attempt over the past ten years, compared with 92 percent nationally.
Graduates overwhelmingly say that faculty members are knowledgeable and accessible outside of the classroom and that they would strongly recommend our program to others.
Our BSN Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, which is officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency.
